Kirktonhill Lawn Tennis Club
This is West Dunbartonshire only tennis club and is going from strength to strength in opening up tennis and coaching opportunities for all ages and abilities.
Situated on Dixon Avenue, just off Clydeshore road, the club enjoys a beautiful location overlooking Levengrove Park in the heart of Dumbarton and with views over to Dumbarton Castle and the Overtoun crags.
The club has 3 hard courts and a practice wall, There is currently a small clubhouse with kitchen, toilets and changing facilities. A new Clubhouse is under construction and is looking great already.
Memberships runs from April to March the following year, Coaching for all ages is open to non members and runs from March to October. Junior coaching takes place on saturdays and provided by a Level 3 coach. Indoor coaching is available over the winter in a local sports centre. No block booking required, racquets are available to borrow on the day and members get reduced rates for coaching. Adult coaching takes place on a Monday Night with intermediate ladies and team members, followed by mixed beginners.
Teams of Ladies, Gents, Senior Ladies and Senior Gents compete each year in the Tennis West Of Scotland League Competition. Junior teams are also involved in the Aegon Tennis League competitions.
Kirktonhill LTC is a small but vibrant club run by a small committee and very valuable volunteers. There are regular fundraising and social events over the course of the year; Quiz nights, Race night, Family Awards night.
We also have a 50/50 club; £5 a month by direct debit. Half the proceeds go to the club and the rest is split between the three prize winners.
Annual membership rates are extremely competitive:
Junior (age 4 - 18yrs) £45
Junior (4 - 12)& Parent £65

7.00 - 7.45 Mixed Beginner coaching
Tuesday evening: Gents coachiing.
Wednesday Evening: Family night
Thursday Evening: Social Tennis
Friday early evening; Active Schools tennis coaching
Saturday morning: 9.30 - 1.30 Junior coaching
Sunday afternoon: Social Tennis
The courts can be accessed with a key card at any point and play if courts are free. Priority is given as above
1888/89 Kirktonhill Tennis Club first appears in the local valuation roll. At the time the land belonged to Robert Dixon. Very little information can be found of the activities of the club till later World War I
1919: 12th July, New Courts opened at Dumbarton.
" ON Saturday afternoon the tennis courts at Kirktonhill, acquired by the Social and Athletic club of the United Free North Church, were declared open for playby Colonel John M. Denny, CB of Helenslee. The courts of the Old Kirktonhill Tennis club had fallen into disrepair during the war..... (Lennox Herald)
1922 29th April - The Kirktonhill Tennis courts were opened on Saturday..... There has been an entire overall of the grounds,with structural alterations on and additions to the pavilion.
