RE-OPENING OF THE CLUB

from 29th May 2020

with restrictions due to the COVID-19

Exciting News for everyone!

Tennis clubs throughout Scotland have been given the go-ahead to re-open from Friday 29thMay.  There are a number of important restrictions to be aware of:  The club house will remain closed and strict rules about social distancing must be observed.  Access to courts will be limited to current members only and new key cards have been introduced for the gate entry system.    Full details of restrictions are available in the club’s ‘KLTC Play Safe Guidelines’

Coaching and Events

Initially, there will be no group coaching for adults or children.  Some limited coaching on a one-to-one basis should be available in due course and further information on this will be made available once everyone at the club has adjusted to the new restrictions and we have been able to gauge uptake.

Whilst it is difficult to make any plans, we can at least reflect back on what was a very successful year in 2019.  Our junior coaching was well attended and ran from March until early November with 30-40 children attending each week.  After a short break we then provided our 8-week winter coaching in the Meadow Centre for our younger juniors.

2019 was also a great year of social events and fund-raising.  As well as our tennis-related tournaments we had a Car-Rally, Race Night and Quiz Night and sponsored walk.  All in all more funds were raised for the club than in any other recent season.  Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.

Back to tennis and the Good News is that the club is ready and waiting to welcome everyone back!

There have been some ground improvements done such as the removal of trees in a neighbouring garden which means that courts 2 and 3 will be dryer, brighter and clear of leaves etc for the long-term future.  That will make a vast difference for everyone playing on these courts.  Pressure-washing of the courts has also been done and any winter debris removed.  Indeed, given the wonderful weather of this spring and, with it, the display of flowers at the club’s entrance on Dixon Avenue, the courts and surrounds have seldom looked better in recent years.

New Members Always Welcome!

The 50/50 Club

The 50/50 Club raises about £1,200 per year for the tennis club and has proved invaluable in helping fund ground and general maintenance improvements.  It costs only £5.00 per month (by standing order) with half the total going on prizes and the other half helping to the club. The more people who take part, the bigger the prizes so if you would like to get involved, please contact Fiona, Karen or a member of the committee.

TEAM NEWS

2019 was another successful one for the Ladies.  The summer league team finished comfortably mid-table in Division 3, having gained promotion the previous year.   The Senior Ladies went one better by finishing second in their division and gaining promotion to Division 3.

Well Done e to both squads of players.

The Gents had a challenging season in Division 4 and were disappointed to drop down a division for the 2020 season.

The coronavirus lock-down has meant that no matches have been played in this spring/summer league season.  The provisional plan as outlined by Tennis West of Scotland is to play these summer fixtures during the months of August – October and to cancel the senior leagues altogether.  It is too early to say whether this plan will go ahead and updates will be given during the coming weeks.
